About
me

My name is Ludovica Palombi. I am a fashion designer born and raised in Rome, now based in Milan, where I moved five years ago to study Fashion Design.

Background

My journey began in luxury knitwear, where I worked as a Wholesale Assistant for two seasons. That experience became my first tactile education: I learned to understand the quality of a fabric through its hand, and to recognize the value of a garment by starting from its materiality.

Driven by a growing fascination with textiles, I later pursued an independent path of research focused on denim. I spent time immersed in an Italian high-end denim mill, studying each stage of the production process while working alongside people who have dedicated more than three decades to this craft. From them, I absorbed not only the technical language of denim and an uncompromising attention to quality, but also a way of working that balances precision with deep respect for the raw, authentic spirit of the fabric.

Approach

I am a designer. More than the role itself, what defines me is the way I approach my work. Research is the starting point of every project, regardless of its final form, whether a garment, a textile, a concept, or an entire aesthetic universe.

For me, research is not simply one stage of the design process; it is a daily practice. I am constantly observing overlooked corners of places, photographing what catches my eye, collecting forgotten objects, sourcing textiles from antique markets while travelling, and building personal archives of images, people, gestures, and historical references.

From this continuous and instinctive process of collecting emerges a personal creative direction, one that remains deeply rooted in my own visual world rather than being shaped by the mainstream. It is this approach that allows me to create work with authenticity, depth, and a strong sense of identity.

Aesthetic Identity

My visual universe is shaped by a nomadic and archaeological sensibility. Earth, dust, ruins, found materials, and travel are recurring elements in my work. I am drawn to surfaces that reveal the passage of time, to everyday objects transformed into defining details, to mud as a natural dye, and to patina as a form of storytelling. I build each project through a collection of keywords that begin as sensations before they become concepts. They guide my research, shape my process, and ultimately define the worlds I create.

Strengths

Observation and intuition are the qualities that guide everything I do. They inform my visual research, my exploration of materials, the development of a concept, and the selection of every detail. My process is built through layers, with careful attention to nuance and craftsmanship. I am not interested in quick results; I am interested in creating work with depth, substance, and lasting meaning.
